As a senior who has witnessed a lot in my life, I am deeply concerned about the climate crisis.  

I have been personally affected. Two summers ago, due to the wildfires and the smoke, there were an air quality warnings for seniors. I could not go outside for a few days. I worry about my health.
  
But I am mostly concerned about what type of society future generations – our children and grandchildren - are going to face. 

I am concerned about what the next few years will bring. 

The science is clear. If we do not turn the ship around now, we are heading for unmitigated disasters.

Right now, the government is heading in the completely wrong direction.  It is promoting oil and gas development hoping to make Canada an energy superpower. It is weakening a whole host of climate measures and hardly investing in renewable energy.  This scares me. I worry that there is no going back.

I join with Seniors for Climate Action Now! and others who are bringing this issue to the attention of MP’s across the country.

A comprehensive climate plan must address these issues:

1. Meet the necessary emissions and fossil fuel reduction goals to emissions to real zero by 2050.
2. Protect the earth, forests, and wildlife and promote biodiversity.
3. Respect the sovereign rights of Indigenous people.
4. Protect citizens from worsening climate impacts and build resilience in local communities.
5. Create jobs through building a renewable-energy based low carbon and caring economy.
6. Divert military spending to promote democracy, global peace and cooperation
7. Welcome climate refugees and do our fair share to support developing countries in the Global South.

Responding to the climate emergency calls for bold action.  You are my representative. This is happening on your watch. Will you stand up for the people you represent? Will you act to turn things around?
